Fox News proposed a Sept. 17 debate in Pennsylvania between former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris in a letter to both campaigns dated Tuesday.
“As you may recall, despite not having a Democratic debate in 2016/2020, Fox News was able to secure town halls with Democratic candidates,” Fox executive Jay Wallace wrote in a letter to Harris campaign chair Jen O’ Malley Dillon, which was picked up by the Post Office.
Wallace sent an almost identical letter to top Trump campaign advisers Chris LaCivita and Susie Wiles. The letter included a number of statistics that boasted that Fox News is the ratings king in prime time spots.
Specifically, he suggested that Fox News anchors Bret Baier and Martha MacCallum could host the verbal sparring to “foster informed political dialogue.”
The timing of the debate proposal is meant to coincide with the start of early voting in Pennsylvania and other battleground states, according to Wallace.
“We are open to discussion on the exact date, format and location — with or without an audience,” Wallace said in the letter.
The Post reached out to both the Trump and Harris campaigns for comment.
Harris, 59, previously agreed to a CBS vice presidential debate, though a date was never set and has been thrown into uncertainty by her ascension to the helm.
Trump, 78, previously agreed to ABC News against Biden. But with Harris’ rapid ascension to the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee, he resented it.
The ABC News debate was scheduled for September 10.
“My debate with crooked Joe Biden, the worst President in the history of the United States, was scheduled to air on Fake News ABC, home of George Slopadopolus, sometime in September,” Trump wrote on Truth Social on Sunday.
“Now that Joe, not surprisingly, has dropped out of the race, I think the debate, with whomever the Radical Left Democrats choose, should be held on FoxNews, not on very biased ABC. Thank you!”
On Tuesday, Trump attacked Fox News for inviting Democratic Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz to talk about the state of the race.
“Why did Fox News put Tim Walz, Governor of Minnesota, where I lead? They make me fight battles I shouldn’t!” he complained to Social Truth.
During a call with reporters on Tuesday, Trump asserted that he “absolutely” plans to debate Harris, who has gathered the delegates needed for the nomination.
“Oh yes, absolutely, I would. I think it is important. I’m not excited about ABC because it’s really fake news,” he said when asked about the Harris debate.
“I’d be willing to have more than one argument, actually.”
Trump boasted of his performance against Biden last month, which he suggested was the political “end” of the incumbent.
